A quick test of a camera

recently got the chance to get my hands on a Fujifilm FinePix F610 that belongs to someone I know. It's a 6 million pixel digital camera with a lightweight shell and fairly good design. I decided to rush around the garden with it to see how colours came up, and get an idea of how the lens holds up.

it's a pretty tidy camera, the lens had very little fall-off, better than i expected, and you can pick this camera up for around the 300 quid mark now.

The photos

I can't say i'm particularly happy with any of these shots. i just ran around in a few mins and grabbed a variety, but decided to post them here as i've not really take many shots recently, and the garden will enjoy the publicity. i missed the focus on quite a lot of the shots, none have much care put into the composition either. but enough excuses, they aren't all that bad, no?

I usually take most of my pictures on a Canon Powershot S50 or a slightly more serious Canon EOS 10D. Also some of the pictures on this web page have been taken with a Hasselblad similar to this one although a little older, and also on my old EOS 10 and a EOS 1N before digital came of age.

the Fujifilm F610 did impress me though, and the only criticisms of it are the slightly over eager colour enhancement and jpeg sharpening that it insists upon doing. Oh, and the software onboard, as is so often the case with this latest generation of digitals, remains unprofessional and clunky, like a bad example of standard Java GUI programming. But then, you can't expect everything.

have a look at the full gallery and see how many insects you can spot on these plants. maybe next time i'll clean the subject up a bit before hand and take some decent shots. one last thing, all these photos were taken in poor light conditions (it was cloudy) so that gives you an idea of how well the poor little camera did.
